Presses, whether for blanking, piercing or forming are commonly used in industry. Certain applications call for custom built presses, and these are often powered by air over oil cylinders from manufacturers such as Pressotechnik or Multicyl. We design press frames for these types of cylinders in such a fashion that the platens are kept parallel within high tolerances, no welding is required and the use of flame cut parts keeps machining to a minimum. Finite element analysis is used to determine how heavy the press components have to be in order to keep deflection within the required limits. The double cylinder press shown on the right is a station integrated into a machine containing a rotary indexing table with 12 stations. At this station It loads and drives pins to assemble car door hinges.
